I started at a new company several months ago and near the end of my first week I receive a meeting invite:
Invitees: All Company… interesting, but okay.
When: Friday Afternoon… wait, is this a joke?
Frequency: Every. Single. Week…NO F’ING WAY!!!
You have got to be kidding me, what did I get myself into?!
I was not looking forward to this. Actually, I was dreading it and questioning my career move already. I thought this place was cool; at least that is how it came across in the interview.
This meeting however, is different.
Every member of leadership talks about their week and what happened, the good, the bad, the ugly. Everyone else on the call is more than welcome to speak as well, and most do. What really makes it cool is how complementary everyone is of one another.
Sales thanks Operations for helping close a deal.
Scheduling thanking the Development Team for releasing a new feature that saves them time.
And the CEO, well he thanks everyone for everything; the hard work, dedication, and sacrifice they make everyday.
This type of thing goes on the entire meeting!
The meeting is virtual and as people are talking there is a constant barrage of handclaps, smiles, hearts, or celebration emojis flying across the screen.
There is laughing, joking, and true comradery between everyone at all levels in all departments.
This meeting is fun. This meeting is uplifting. This meeting is awesome!
It makes me wish I joined this company years ago.
I now look forward to this meeting every week.
Bring on the Friday meeting!
